My son has just been selected Chief. Your story represents his heart and soul and I am honored and humbled by his selection.
The last line of your story ..."never forget where you came from !", solidified exactly the words I had decided to pass on to him. God Bless you and thank you for your service.
What an honor to have men and women such as yourself represent all that is great and good in this country!

As I am learning more and more about a Navy friend of mine. I must say, that I am honored that I know her. She has retired with "HONOR" from the Navy after 21 years of service. She was recommend to be Chief Petty Officer. WOW It is remarkable to hear about the achievements that have been given to her. I wished, I was not disabled, with my heart condition. I wished, sometimes, that military institutions, would honor disabled individuals, to serve. It would make me proud to serve. Unfortunley, I am probably, far to old to serve. I am now going to be 46 years old. But I bow my head before each and everyone of you who are serving our country, every day. May God bless you and always keep you safe. May your ship and those who serve on it, always come home in one piece. Good speed Navy's... Sincerely Angelika Bertrand.

It's good to know there are Chiefs like you in the Navy looking after our sailors. It's not about us it's about them because without them we would have never made it to where we are. I especially liked the remark about what your mentor said. Your not a Chief until you've made one. Well from one Retired Chief who has made many Chiefs (and even though I hate to admit it a few Officers, they forgot the creed and went for greed Ha ha!) I find this to be one of our most important missions. Yes we need to carry out operational missions but when we go we need to make sure we have done all we can to leave the Navy in good hands for the future of our families, friends the Navy and our country. Thank you Shipmate and keep up the good work. B.Z.!!!
